Acronym Glossary

The Acronym Glossary provides definitions for abbreviations commonly used in Council meetings, documents, fisheries management plans, and scientific reports.

Coop/IPA Reports

This collection includes annual reports submitted by Fishing Cooperatives and Incentive Plan Agreement participants in several North Pacific fisheries. The reports help the Council evaluate how cooperatives and incentive programs are operating, track progress toward management goals, and receive feedback from participating sectors.

Council Letters of Interest

Council Letters of Interest include correspondence that is not associated with a currently published meeting agenda or that may relate to an issue expected to come before the Council in the future. Letters connected to an active agenda item are generally posted directly to the corresponding eAgenda.

Council Records

Council Records provide access to historical Council summaries, Advisory Panel reports, Scientific and Statistical Committee reports, and meeting eAgendas.

FMPs, FEPs, & Amendment Summaries

This resource provides access to the Council’s Fishery Management Plans, Fishery Ecosystem Plans, supporting appendices, and summaries of amendments adopted over time. These documents describe the management frameworks for federally managed fisheries off Alaska and provide a history of important changes to those frameworks.

LKTKS Search Engine

The Local Knowledge, Traditional Knowledge, and Subsistence Search Engine is a publicly accessible collection of materials relevant to federal fisheries management in the North Pacific. It brings together scientific articles, reports, archives, media, and other sources addressing local and traditional knowledge, subsistence, and related social-science topics.

NOAA Online Library

The NOAA Institutional Repository preserves and provides public access to scientific and technical information published by NOAA or its funded partners. Its collection includes scientific findings, journal articles, guidelines, recommendations, reports, and other materials retained in their original published formats.

Newsletters

Council newsletters provide detailed recaps of Council meetings, including summaries and background information on major fisheries issues and decisions. They also highlight upcoming meetings, public participation opportunities, announcements, and other information related to the Council process.

Papers & Publications

This collection includes publications produced by the Council on North Pacific fisheries, management programs, fishing fleets, and species, as well as the history of the Council process. It also provides selected reports, conference materials, educational publications, and other reference documents developed throughout the Council’s history.

Pelagic Trawl Gear Research Summaries

These summaries track research, exempted fishing permits, and gear-innovation projects intended to address information gaps related to pelagic trawl gear. The resource includes project objectives, timelines, participating researchers, methods, milestones, and available updates, and is periodically revised as new information is received.

Program and Allocation Reviews

This collection provides periodic reviews of major North Pacific fishery management and allocation programs, including catch-share and rationalization programs. These reviews evaluate whether programs and allocations continue to meet their objectives and document changes in fisheries, communities, management needs, and other relevant conditions.

Recognition & Awards

This page recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to fisheries management and science in the North Pacific. It includes information about the Bob Mace Distinguished Service Award and the Terry Quinn II Distinguished Scientist Award, along with award criteria and past recipients.

Research Priorities Database

The Research Priorities Database provides a searchable and filterable list of research needs identified by the Council and its Scientific and Statistical Committee. Priorities can be explored by subject, ecosystem area, Council action, plan team, priority level, and the current status of the research.

Stock Assessment (SAFE) Reports

Stock Assessment and Fishery Evaluation reports provide scientific information used to evaluate the condition of federally managed fish and crab stocks off Alaska. These reports include stock assessments, fishery information, ecosystem and socioeconomic considerations, and supporting materials used to inform annual harvest specifications and other management decisions.

U.S. Regional Fishery Management Councils

This website provides information about the eight Regional Fishery Management Councils established under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. It includes links to each Council, information about the national Council system, shared meetings and initiatives, and the Councils’ collaborative, transparent, and science-based management process.

We respectfully acknowledge that the Council regularly meets, and its staff office resides, in Anchorage on Dena’ina homelands. The Council wants to honor the Dena’ina, the Indigenous Peoples who have stewarded this land across generations and continue to do so. We are glad to be part of this community, and to honor the culture, resilience, and tradition of the Dena’ina people.
