February 2022 Council meeting will be held virtually
The Council will hold the February Council meeting virtually, rather than in person in Seattle, WA. While we continue to prioritize the need to get the Council process back to meeting in person, there is considerable uncertainty about the number of attendees at the February meeting, given the planned opportunities for remote testimony and presentations, a relatively light agenda with few controversial actions scheduled, and the unknown status of COVID following the holidays, especially given new variants. If the Council is not able to meet its contracted room and catering commitments to the hotel, we will be subject to a significant financial penalty without achieving our goal of resuming a “normal” meeting style. We also have some concerns about the Council’s liability to comply with the King Country mandates for universal masking and proof of vaccination at all times during the meeting.
We will continue to plan on an in-person meeting in April, with remote accessibility options for testifiers and presenters, in Anchorage, AK. The financial risk of not meeting room blocks, and the cost of internet to support remote accessibility, is substantially less in Anchorage than at the Seattle hotel.
The February virtual meeting dates will be as follows:
January 31 – February 4: SSC and AP convene
February 7-11: Council convenes
The eAgenda is published a month before a Council meeting and all documents related to each meeting are available through its eAgenda. The newsletter is published the week following the meeting. You can subscribe to both. A tentative list of agenda items for the next three meetings is published in our Three Meeting Outlook.

The Council meets five times each year, usually in February, April, June, October and December, with three of the meetings held in Anchorage, one in a fishing community in Alaska and one either in Portland or Seattle. Most Council meetings take seven days, with the SSC and AP usually following the same agenda and meeting one and two days earlier, respectively. All meetings are open to the public, except for an occasional short, closed session in which the Council deals with personnel, administrative, or litigation issues. Minutes taken for each Council meeting are available to the public. VIEW ARCHIVES.
Live Meeting Broadcasts
Post Meeting Audio Files
Although Adobe Connect allows an individual to record their own portions of the meeting, all Council meetings are recorded separately and archived. Starting October 2020, the Council also steams its meeting on YouTube and maintains an archive of the Council meetings there. Beginning in April 2008, these mp3 audio files are stored electronically on a third-party storage site (www.box.net). Click HERE to access AUDIO files for all meetings through Box.net. Use the time log posted with the audio files to help navigate to the correct file.
Prior to April 2008, many meetings have been electronically transferred from cassette tape to audio files which are also available online. For those not transferred over, cassette tape copies can be obtained via Alaska Sound Labs. For any questions regarding meeting recordings, audio, or broadcasts, please contact email@example.com, or call the office.
