NOAA is seeking nominations for an Alaska resident to serve as a United States Commissioner to the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC).
This is a unique opportunity to help represent the interests of Alaska and the many stakeholders who depend on Pacific halibut. The IPHC plays a critical role in the conservation and management of the Pacific halibut fishery shared by the United States and Canada.
Candidates should have knowledge or experience related to the Pacific halibut fishery. Experience may include commercial, subsistence, sport, charter, tribal, Community Development Quota, processing, or fisheries management activities. Self-nominations are welcome.
The position involves a modest amount of travel, typically two or three trips per year, with necessary travel expenses covered. Commissioners are appointed for terms of up to two years and serve without compensation.
Nominations must be received by September 14, 2026.
