The Council is working to set BSAI halibut prohibited species catch limits based on halibut abundance levels. In February 2020, the Council modified the suite of alternatives and refocused the analysis to apply only to the Amendment 80 sector.
To help the Council and stakeholders with understanding the alternatives to be analyzed, below are posted the two relevant motions which address this action (October 2019 and February 2020) as well as a draft description of the 4 Alternatives (the No Action or Status Quo Alternative and the three Action Alternatives). The analyzed alternatives (in the form of a preliminary Draft Environmental Impact Statement or DEIS) will be available in early September for consideration at the October 2020 Council meeting.

In a separate action on ABM in February, the Council also initiated a discussion paper. A discussion paper is currently being prepared for review at the October 2020 Council meeting. It will address the items in the Council’s motion and will be available in early September.
