The North Pacific Research Board seeks an exceptional candidate to join the Anchorage-based staff as a Program Manager and a Communications Outreach Director.

Program Manager

The program manager will be responsible for implementation and management of research programs concerning marine ecosystem dynamics and sustainable use of marine resources in the Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands, and Chukchi/Beaufort Seas. Under the general direction of the science director, the program manager will collaborate with a variety of scientists at government, private and academic institutions. A successful candidate will have a record of accomplishment with a particular emphasis on planning and oversight of marine research with natural resource management applications.

Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, salary history and contact information for three work-related references to Human Resources Director Cindy Ecklund. Applications will be accepted until October 10, 2014 with an anticipated start date of December 1, 2014.

Communications and Outreach Director

The Communications and Outreach Director is responsible for the design, implementation and management of a comprehensive strategy for disseminating information about NPRB’s activities. The communications and outreach director translates scientific information into user-friendly terms and packages it for maximum accessibility, exposure and impact.

Read the position description for examples of duties and desired knowledge, skills and abilities. Candidates should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, salary history, three writing samples for different audiences, and contact information for three work-related references to Human Resources Director Cindy Ecklund. Applications will be accepted until October 17, 2014. Review of applications and interviews will take place in October with an anticipated start date of November 3, 2014.

Congress created NPRB in 1997 to recommend marine research initiatives to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, who makes final funding decisions. NPRB supports research on marine ecosystem dynamics and sustainable use of natural marine resources in the Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands, and Chukchi/Beaufort Seas. Read more about NPRB’s history and programs before applying.
