The Council’s Halibut Abundance-based management (ABM) Stakeholder Committee will hold an organizational meeting by teleconference on November 29, 2019 from 10am-12pm (AST). Newly appointed members are: Andy Mezirow (Chair), Simeon Swetzof, Heather McCarty, Angel Drobnica, Bob Alverson, Chad See, Ruth Christiansen, Chris Woodley, and Arne Fuglvog.
The overall task for the Committee is to provide recommendations for the scenarios to be analyzed in the upcoming halibut abundance-based management PSC limit analysis and provide recommendations on measurable objectives and associated performance metrics to be considered by analysts in evaluating trade-offs among alternatives. At the November teleconference, the Committee will discuss the terms of reference for the committee, timing and process for submission of scenarios, information available and process for recommending management objectives and performance metrics prior to the February Council meeting. An initial update on Committee progress to be provided to the Council in December.
The committee will meet again prior to the February 2019 Council meeting to review and draft scenarios. The committee is intended to include a range of interested stakeholders from both the directed BSAI groundfish and directed Area 4 halibut fisheries. Interested members of the public should submit a letter of interest and brief resume to the Council chairman and Executive Director by close of business on October 30th. The appointments to the committee will be made soon after the nominations close and will be posted to the Council website.
