Alaska Board of Fisheries
In 1996, the Council and the Alaska Board of Fisheries were seeking ways to keep each other informed on cross-jurisdictional issues that impact fisheries in State and Federal waters, following an action taken by the Board to initiate a State waters fishery for Pacific cod in the GOA. January 1997, the Council and Alaska Board of Fisheries established a joint committee to develop a protocol for future interactions, and in February 1997, this protocol was approved by both bodies. An addendum to the protocol was approved in October 1999 to expand the purview of the State/Federal Policy Group and describe a process for categorizing crab proposals and addressing important off-cycle issues. The protocol was fully updated in December 2009.
